Japanese people value harmony.
Consequently, they refrain from expressing dissent directly.
Instead, they keenly observe the atmosphere and intuitively agree with what the majority might be thinking.
However, this doesn’t imply that they lack their own opinions.
They carefully weigh the decision to voice their thoughts versus remaining silent, always choosing the option that favors them.
In my view, Japanese people exhibit cunning.
日本人は調和を重んじる。
だから面と向かって、異論を唱えることはしない。
他人が何を考えているか、その場の雰囲気を察知して、大多数が考えているだろうということに同意する。
しかし、だからと言って、自分の意見がないわけではない。
自分の意見をはっきり言うことと言わないこととを天秤にかけて自分が有利になる方を選択しているのだ。
日本人はしたたかだと思う。
