I have been on a trip to India.
Before going, I had heard that India was a tough place.
When I actually went, I found it really was.
The tour guide asked me to lend him money, but he never paid it back.
At a coffee shop, I didn’t get my change.
The tuk-tuk took me to a suspicious travel agency.
When I asked the station staff about the train time, they lied without hesitation.
But all of these things were easy to see through.
It was like the harmless lies children tell.
Since I was careful, I didn’t suffer any real damage.
Maybe these things are what make India interesting.
In Japan, there’s a saying that going to India will change your view of life.
They say many people in Japan become hooked on India.
In my case, not that much, but I do want to go again.
インド旅行に行ったことがある。
行く前から、インドは大変なところだと聞いていた。
行ってみると、確かに大変だった。
ツアーガイドから金を貸してくれと言われて貸したら返してくれない。
喫茶店ではお釣りを渡されない。
つくつくで連れていかれたのは怪しい旅行会社。
列車の時間を聞いたら駅員から平気でうそをつかれる。などなど。
ところが、これらは皆、見え透いているのである。
たとえて言うなら悪気のない子供の嘘のようなのだ。
用心をしていたので実害はなかった。
こうしたことがるから、インドは面白いのかも知れない。
日本では、インドに行けば人生観が変わるという言い伝えがある。
インドにはまるひとは日本ではとても多いらしい。
俺の場合は、そこまででもないが、もう一度行きたいと思っている。(16時18分)
