People with wide foreheads are said to be intelligent.
Since my forehead is wide, I thought it must be true.
Conversely, this implies that people with narrow foreheads are not intelligent.
But is that really the case?
In reality, there is no relationship between forehead width and intelligence.
There are people with wide foreheads who aren’t intelligent, and people with narrow foreheads who are intelligent.
However, it’s true that people with wide foreheads often look intelligent.
When I was a child, adults often told me, “You have a wide forehead, so you must be intelligent.”
So, I thought I was intelligent.
But as I grew up, I realized that the adults who said that weren’t intelligent themselves.
おでこの広い人は頭が良いと言われている。
自分はおでこが広いので、そうなのだろうと思っていた。
でも、逆の言い方をするとおでこの狭い人は頭が悪いとなる。
本当にそうだろうか。
実際にはおでこの広さと頭の良さは関係しないだろう。
おでこが広くて頭の悪い人、おでこが狭くて頭の良い人がいる。
ただ、おでこが広い人は頭がよさそうに見えることは事実だ。
子供の頃は大人の人から良く「おでこが広いから君は頭が良い」と言われた。
だから、自分は頭が良いと思っていた。
