The method of theft used to involve targeting cars with keys left inside, but nowadays, there’s a significant increase in thefts using relay attacks.
A relay attack involves amplifying the weak radio waves emitted by keys kept at home to start the car’s engine.
This means that even if the key is inside the house, it can be stolen.
One preventive measure is to store the key in a metal container that blocks radio waves.
However, this approach makes it inconvenient to retrieve the key.
I hope the car manufacturers can find a solution to this issue.
It’s worth noting that “relay attack” is a term coined in Japanese, and it may not be understood abroad, much like the term “stove,” which is also a Japanese creation and might not make sense in other countries.

盗難の手口は、昔はキーが付いている車を狙い盗んでいたが、最近はリレーアタックによる盗難が多い。
リレーアタックとは家に置いているキーが発する微弱電波を増幅してエンジンをかけるという手法。
これだと部屋にキーを置いているのに、盗まれてしまう。
防ぐ手立てはキーを電波を遮断するような金属製の物の中にしまうことだ。
しかし、これではキーを取り出すのに手間がかかってしまう。
メーカーに何とかしてもらいたいと思っている。
